Earlier this week the representatives from the organizations behind the Icelandic Innovation Forum (I. Nýsköpunarþing) and the Icelandic Innovation Awards (I. Nýsköpunarverðlaun Íslands) visited the company Hefring Marine. The company received the Icelandic Innovation Award 2025 earlier this winter, and it has become a tradition to visit award winners.
The awards and the forum are organized by the Icelandic Intellectual Property Office (I. Hugverkastofa), the New Business Venture Fund Kría (I. Nýsköpunarsjóðurinn Kría), Business Iceland (I.Íslandsstofa) and Rannís - the Icelandic Centre for Research, whose representatives attended the visit to Hefring Marine on this occassion. Karl Birgir Björnsson and Björn Jónsson, two of the company's founders, welcomed the group and spoke about the company's operations, its current position and its future vision.
As the recipient of the Icelandic Innovation Award, Hefring Marine will represent Iceland in the Nordic Innovation Award 2026. The award will be presented at a ceremonial event in Oslo on 21 May, where each Nordic country nominates one innovative company for the award.
The jury consists of the Directors General of the intellectual property offices of Iceland, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Finland, along with representatives from the innovation ecosystems in each country. The jury will select one company to receive the award.
