Íslenska tæknifyrirtækið Sowilo ehf., sem þróar gervigreindarlausnina Catecut, hefur gefið út Shopify-app sitt í Shopify App Store í kjölfar þess að hafa lokið frumfjármögnun félagsins. Catecut was one of the companies selected for investment through The New Business Venture Fund Kría's Frumsjóður 2025 initiative.
Iceland-based Sowilo ehf., announced it has released its Catecut app on the Shopify App Store on the heels of raising its pre-seed round of funding.
Catecut is a platform-agnostic fashion product intelligence solution that leverages its own AI to identify fashion category products, and their design attributes from a retailer’s product imagery, and deliver back to the retailer’s online store the titles, descriptions, metadata and tags needed to fully populate product pages automatically. Catecut has jewelry and apparel retail customers in the United States, and has piloted its solution with internationally recognisable enterprise retailers.
The app is now available globally on the Shopify App Store, and can be used directly within a store administrator’s dashboard, with features that enable on-brand and multi-lingual product content, page structure formatting, and the ability to update both new and existing products on a store with fresh content, image alt text, and other metadata, as well as SEO and GEO-friendly discovery tags.
The launch of the Catecut Shopify app follows Sowilo’s pre-seed fundraise, which included participation from Iceland’s Kría fund, Netherlands and India-based TGC Capital, and several angel investors from Iceland and Australia.
Heiðrún Ósk Sigfúsdóttir, founder and CEO of Sowilo (Catecut):
“We are happy to have expert investors support the next phase of our growth as we bring Catecut to new channels and markets, and expand our reach to both emerging fashion retail brands and enterprises internationally.”
Hrönn Greipsdóttir, CEO of the New Business Venture Fund Kría
“Catecut is one of the companies selected for investment through the recent Frumsjóður 25 investment initiative,” said Hrönn Greipsdóttir, CEO of the Business Venture Fund Kría. “It speaks volumes that Catecut was among the 11 companies selected in the final round from a total of 88 applicants. We look forward to following the company's journey and supporting its continued growth in the years ahead.”
In December of 2025, Sowilo was also awarded a Tækniþróunarsjóður grant for marketing Catecut in regions of APAC, including Singapore, Australia, and New Zealand. Aligned to its market entry goals, Catecut was selected as one of the renowned National Retail Federation’s NRF APAC Big Show Innovator Showcase exhibitor companies in June, and will exhibit at The Retail Show in Melbourne, Australia in September.
Catecut’s objectives are to expand its customer reach and adoption in North America and Europe with its Shopify app, while establishing its footprint in APAC.
