Retirement of Friðrik Friðriksson

Friðrik Friðriksson, CFO of the Icelandic Innovation Fund Kría, recently stepped down from his position due to age. He had worked at the fund since 2017, where his primary role was overseeing the companies in the investment portfolio. Friðrik says that he most often drew on his experience in operational improvements in his work. The same principles apply regardless of the size and maturity of the companies.

Most of Friðrik’s work has been connected to innovation in one way or another. Helping companies get off the ground and supporting them along the way has been the guiding theme. Before joining the Innovation Fund, Friðrik was the managing director of Skjárinn/SkjárEinn, a subsidiary of Síminn that later merged into Síminn and laid the foundation for Sjónvarp Símans.

What comes next?

Friðrik is passionate about sports; he swims, skis, hunts, and plays golf, and he also reads a lot and enjoys chess. It is clear that he will have plenty to keep him busy. He says that hiking and cross-country skiing in nature top almost everything, though he dislikes slow play in golf the most.

Friðrik says that although he has now stepped down from the Innovation Fund, he is by no means retiring from work. He will continue to work in operational consulting, which he knows well, and he will let future opportunities depend on circumstances and his interests. “We’ll see how it plays out,” he adds, further reflecting his enthusiasm for sports. An interesting fact is that Friðrik was a member of the national handball team and the top scorer in the premier league. His motto is to do well whatever one takes on—it is far better and takes just as much time.

We at the Innovation Fund Kría thank Friðrik for all his excellent work and will miss this remarkabl
