An article about Kara Connect, ne of The New Business Venture Fund Kría’s portfolio companies, was published in Morgunblaðinu. The article features an interview with Erik Christianson Chaillot, Head of Human Resources at KPMG á Íslandi, uabout the company’s experience with Kara Connect’s Workplace Wellbeing platform. KPMG implemented the solution in 2023 with the aim of enabling employees to seek support earlier and proactively, before pressure or other challenges develop into more serious problems.
According to Erik, use of the service has steadily increased and employee satisfaction has been high. He says the most significant change, however, is that it has become more normal to discuss mental health in the workplace and seek support. The service has now become an important part of KPMG’s workplace culture.
Trust and confidentiality are also key elements of the solution. Employees can seek support without managers or HR teams knowing who has booked an appointment or why. Strong emphasis is also placed on privacy and the secure handling of personal information.
Erik points out that workplaces often wait too long before intervening and that prevention should be part of the everyday working environment, rather than simply a response once sickness absence has already begun.
“One of the key benefits of Kara is that it sends a clear message that the workplace takes employee wellbeing seriously,” says Erik, encouraging workplaces to consider how the service can be tailored to the needs of their employees.
