The company Humble received today, April 28, the Kuðungurinn, an environmental recognition awarded by the Ministry for the Environment, Energy and Climate, for outstanding work in environmental matters over the past year.

According to the jury’s verdict, Humble has made a notable impact in reducing food waste in Iceland. From the outset, the company has been guided by the goal of minimizing waste and making better use of resources that would otherwise go to waste.

Jóhann Páll Jóhannsson, Minister for the Environment, Energy and Climate, is quoted as saying that there is significant momentum in environmental issues across society. Innovation, foresight and ambition are clearly reflected in the large number of nominations received, with both individuals and companies contributing to a more sustainable future. A focus on sustainability benefits not only the environment but also strengthens how companies connect with their customers. In addition to Humble, Krónan also received the Kuðungurinn award in the category of larger companies.

Humble received the award in the small company category and is also granted the right to use the award’s emblem in the promotion of its operations.

In the jury’s reasoning, it is noted that Humble has grown tenfold over the past year, thereby saving substantial value from ending up as waste, with significant positive environmental impact. In 2025, the company prevented 31 tonnes of food from being discarded, avoiding emissions equivalent to approximately 100 tonnes of CO2.

The selection committee consisted of Benedikt Traustason (chair), Reynir Smári Atlason representing the Confederation of Icelandic Enterprise, Auður Alfa Ólafsdóttir representing the Icelandic Confederation of Labour, and Bára Hulda Beck representing environmental NGOs.

We warmly congratulate Humble. The company has been part of Kría – the Icelandic Innovation Fund’s investment portfolio since 2023, having first joined through the Frumsjóður 2023 initiative.
