The high-tech company Hefring Marine has successfully passed NATO's rigorous selection process with a new maritime surveillance solution and will soon take part in NATO's DIANA technology accelerator, which is being held this January in Cove, Canada.
The solution that caught NATO’s attention is called Heimdallur and represents a new approach to monitoring vessels that attempt to evade detection by switching off transmitters or even sailing under a false flag by deliberately registering incorrect vessel information. This is made possible by leveraging data from surrounding vessel traffic at any given time around Iceland, thereby strengthening maritime domain awareness.
Hefring Marine was founded in 2018 and first joined the portfolio of the Icelandic Venture Fund Kría in 2019.
