Treble Technologies Receives the 2026 Icelandic Innovation Award

Representatives of Treble Technologies celebrate receiving the 2026 Icelandic Innovation Award.

The 2026 Icelandic Innovation Award was presented yesterday, 29 October, to the innovative technology company Treble Technologies, which has developed and commercialised sound simulation technology that recreates real-world acoustic conditions in virtual environments. The technology is used in applications including building design, audio equipment development, and artificial intelligence systems that need to perceive and interpret sounds in their surroundings. The award was presented by Hanna Katrín Friðriksson, Minister of Industries.

About the Award Winner

Founded in 2020, Treble Technologies has established an international presence, with its headquarters in Reykjavík. The company develops software that enables technology companies, designers, and other specialists to simulate how sound travels and behaves in real-world environments. Its solutions are used in architectural acoustics, audio equipment development, and the testing of devices that rely on sound perception.

In recent years, Treble has leveraged its sound simulation technology to support the development of devices and artificial intelligence systems capable of perceiving and understanding sound in real-world conditions. By recreating a wide range of acoustic environments digitally, developers can test and improve the performance of technological devices before they are deployed. These solutions are used in the development of smart devices, speech recognition systems, and robotics. Treble's vision is to create a better-sounding world where people can communicate more easily with one another and with the technology around them.

Treble serves international technology companies, including Amazon and Logitech. Nearly all of the company's revenue is generated in international markets, with revenues exceeding ISK 177 million in 2025. During the same year, the company employed the equivalent of more than 33 full-time positions, of which more than 23 were dedicated to research and development.

The company has been granted four patents in the United States for its technology and is pursuing further intellectual property protection in international markets. Treble has also secured funding from international investors to support continued research, development, and market expansion.

Jury's Statement

Treble Technologies is an outstanding example of how Icelandic research and development can provide the foundation for an internationally successful technology company. Through its specialised expertise in sound simulation, the company has developed technology that gives it a strong competitive position in the global market.

The rapid advancement of artificial intelligence has created new opportunities for Treble's technology. The company has demonstrated foresight by applying knowledge and technology originally developed for sound simulation to meet emerging needs in artificial intelligence. Treble's expertise is now being used to develop devices and systems capable of perceiving and interpreting sounds in their surroundings. By expanding the applications of its technology, the company has created new business opportunities in a rapidly evolving market.

Treble has already demonstrated the commercial value of its technology through sales to leading international technology companies. It has also secured important intellectual property rights and raised substantial growth capital to support further development and international market expansion.

Treble has established specialised operations in Iceland, creating highly skilled jobs in research and technology development. By applying the results of its research to new markets, the company has demonstrated initiative and adaptability, setting an example for other Icelandic startups.

The jury considers Treble Technologies a highly deserving recipient of the 2026 Icelandic Innovation Award.

The Icelandic Innovation Award

The Icelandic Innovation Award is presented by Rannís – the Icelandic Centre for Research, Kría Venture Fund, Business Iceland, and the Icelandic Intellectual Property Office. The award recognises companies that excel in developing new products or services based on research and innovation and have achieved commercial success. Its purpose is to highlight the important connection between research, innovation, and increased value creation in the business sector.

In selecting the award recipient, the jury considers whether the company is a startup built on new technology and innovative ideas, and whether it possesses the knowledge and experience required to carry out outstanding development work. The evaluation also takes into account the added value of its products or services and its commercial achievements.

The jury further assesses the company's long-term viability and whether its approach to innovation management can serve as a model for others. Finally, consideration is given to whether the company can inspire others to pursue similar paths.

The award itself is a sculpture of Freyr, the Norse god of fertility, created by sculptor Hallsteinn Sigurðsson.
