Smali Expands the Reach of Fishing Gear
Optitog develops advanced equipment for the seafood industry: controllable trawl doors with integrated photonics technology that herd fish more efficiently. By improving the fishing process, Optitog reduces costs and carbon footprint, enabling more sustainable fishing practices.
The company’s first product, Smali, expands the effective fishing zone of existing gear. Smali delivers higher catch per unit of time while using less energy—resulting in reduced greenhouse gas emissions. At the same time, it helps protect marine biodiversity and seabed ecosystems while increasing trawler productivity.
Currently, Optitog technology is used in shrimp fisheries, where the device does not touch the seabed, ensuring its protection. The company’s roadmap includes further innovations and equipment designed for other types of seafood in the future.
