Zebrafish for Drug Screening

3Z emerged from a strong research environment within the Department of Technology and Engineering at Reykjavík University, with its founders bringing expertise in neuropsychology and neuroscience. The company’s mission is to commercialize a method that uses zebrafish for screening compounds that affect the central nervous system—paving the way for the discovery of next-generation CNS drugs. Compared to conventional approaches, these methods are significantly cheaper, faster, and more humane. 3Z aims to offer its screening services to pharmaceutical development companies worldwide. The company was founded by Karl Ægir Karlsson, Associate Professor at Reykjavík University’s School of Science and Engineering, and Haraldur Þorsteinsson, in partnership with Reykjavík University.
